I bought this for the very cool retro design and the fact that I assumed it would be great for the kitchen. Only problem is that it doesn't work. The first time i used it was jammed by the popped popcorn. After that all these stress cracks started appearing throughout the plastic door. Only used about three times and the side bolt that holds the kettle up broke. I was really excited to buy this thinking it would be great for home but it turned out it was just a waste of money, I should have just spent an extra 100 dollars and got a semi decent machine. I'm urging everyone who is thinking about getting this DON'T you will regret it.
This product is not good. When the kernels first start popping, they blow the lid off and half the kernels come spouting out unpopped. Other times, the popcorn gets all jammed in the cooker and then the rotating arm in the bottom of the kettle turns off because it is jammed. The door is flimsy plastic that came with stress cracks by the bolts that hold it on. The other plastic slanting door also is garbage and does not stay in place. Overall: Try a bag of microwave popcorn and save yourself [$] or more!
This gift was for my Girlfriend who keeps telling me how much she misses movie theatre popcorn. When I saw this, I just had to get it for her for christmas. She was so thrilled. The machine is easy to clean and put together. It says to put 2 tsp of butter oil or whatever but you will need 3 tsp for this one. I tried it with 2 tsp and some of the popcorn was burnt a bit. Also rarely will the kettel spinner thing will get stuck if you put too much popcorn in it so make sure you use the right amount of popcorn. Those are the tips I have for you. It is a great gift for someone and well worth the money.
The kids and I like using this. It's fun to watch as the corn starts popping. One glaring problem is the popping chamber is too shallow. What happens is a good 40-50% of your kernels get thrown out unpopped with the popped ones. Be ready to waste a lot of corn.
The other issues, which, for the size, and price, are understandable, is that it takes several batches to fill up a typical family popcorn bowl. And....since there's no real warming light (just a little 20 watt bulb they call a warming light - which is there only for astetics) your corn does not come out hot.
Overall, I'm not as thrilled with this as I thought I'd be. For the price, it's nice looking and is well-constructed. But the wasted corn and small batches get me dreaming about owning a "real" popper.
