WHAT ARE THE MATERIALS? Natural pine cones, paraffin wax, copper sulfate, and ammonium chloride are used to produce color cones. You will find most of our packages contain a mixture of different species of pine cones; pinion, loblolly, Douglas fir and sand pine. The combination gives variety to the package and helps us give full value. HOW ARE THEY MADE? Natural pine cones are dipped into hot liquid paraffin wax and while still hot, the cones are tumbled in special equipment where the two color compounds are applied. Once the wax cools and hardens, it holds the color compounds on the cones. HOW LONG WILL THEY GIVE THE COLOR EFFECT? A single cone will have a color effect for about 6 to 8 minutes. Typically we find ½lb of color cones will be the amount used in one evening. WHERE ARE THEY USED? Color cones should only be used in wood fires including wood burning fireplaces and campfires. They should not be used in gas log fireplaces. HOW LONG WILL THEY GIVE THE COLOR EFFECT? A single cone will have a color effect for about 6 to 8 minutes. Typically we find ½lb of color cones will be the amount used in one evening. DO THEY LEAVE A RESIDUE? A well established fire will completely burn up the cone and leave no residue. |
