I was going to use it as an emergency heat source but it is so nice I am leaving it in place and turning down central heating to save on high price of propane.

I installed this heater for my mother yesterday. My only regret is that it cannot function with only two plaques; the sequence seems to go one—three— or five (plaques); two doesn't seem to be in the cards. The ability to light only two plaques would be good at times where three are too hot and one is too cool; but overall it seems a very good quality product and my mother is quite happy with it. The first thing she asked me after the installation was complete was whether the large pilot could be "turned down," haha. I told her no. . . that if the pilot were smaller the heater couldn't function properly, because the flame would then fall short of the thermocouple. Yet the pilot is a bit on the large side; if I were picky I'd recommend that something be done to reduce its size a bit for the sake of fuel savings; either that or find a way to eliminate it all together.
