Comments about Napoleon Deluxe EPA Wood Burning Fireplace Insert - EPI-1402:

I purchased the EPI 1401 in September of 2005.

Use to heat home. The unit is a great heater. Once you figure it out. The main draw back is that all the fire and smoke come to the front glass and you don't dare open the door while burning to move wood that may have fallen. It will smoke you out. The flu is located where the emissions have to come to front and then roll around the unit to go out the chimney making it impossible to add more wood or clean out ashes without major deposits of drifting ash accumulating on furniture and carpet etc. etc. I am very disappointed in the construction of this product. It would be a better unit if they had made a damper slide so you could direct the smoke and ash directly up the chimney when opening the door.
PS. I have been using wood stoves and fire place inserts for over 40 years in four different homes. I am not a novice when using wood burning stoves.
