We moved into our house in 1994.Our stove did not come with a fan.I sometimes use my own, just to move the heat around on extra cold day's.The stove was already installed and in use since 1988 "20yrs" to date. We still use it almost every day! Two years ago I had to replace the gasket on the door. Now..But not always, depending on the wind? I may get a little back flow into the room. I think there may be a small crack or two in the back of the firebox? I may be getting close to replacing it? But HEY after 20+ yrs..I love this unit.

I installed the Osburn 1600 insert on March 22, 2008 and it has not cooled down since. I am heating an area of 1100 sq ft. with 9' ceiling and lots of glass. The coldest outside temperature has been 5 degrees. This is an excellent stove and I would highly recommend it. Use only seasoned wood cut to 16". Anything larger makes it more difficult to fill to capacity. It will burn about 7 hours and still have a good bed of coals. The fan is a variable speed and is fairly quiet on low. Above an outside temperature of 30 degrees the fan is not necessary.
