It comes in 3 main pieces, the mantle, and the two legs. There are also some precut trim pieces to cover up the gaps after installation. It pays to have a good saw to fabricate the hanging bracket, as one is not provided. I liked that this was unfinished, because I could stain it to match the rest of the wooden doors and shutters in the room. The width was perfect for my application, but the existing trim on my fireplace was not tall enough to meet the board below the mantle. I had the choice of either cutting 3.5 inches off the legs, or filling in the gap with more wood. I took a white pine 1X6 from my garage, and stained / shellacked it along with the rest of the fireplace surround. Once installed, it looks like it came with the kit. The fit and finish of the product are good, but not perfect. I think I'm the only one that notices these very minor imperfections, and for the price, I can certainly live with them. All in all, I'm very happy with this product and glad to have a nice place to hang the Christmas stockings.
