FAQ

Functionality
Q: What are Neorest’s features?
A: The Neorest has an innovative cyclone flush engine. The NEOREST seat's multi-task functions provide gentle front-and back-aerated warm water spray, which can be regulated for preferred water pressure and temperature. Other technologically-advanced features include oscillating spray massage, heated seat, automatic catalytic air purifier, and warm air dryer all of which are governed by TOTO’s revolutionary energy-saving mode.

Q: What are some of the “AUTOMATIC” features?
A:
  • Automatically opens lid
  • Automatic flush / seat and lid closure
  • Automatic air purifier

The NEOREST’s lid (not seat) automatically opens whenever an individual approaches it. When the individual leaves, the NEOREST automatically flushes and the lid automatically closes 6 seconds after user leaves sensor zone. With this convenient button-based, remote control luxury feature, one need never worry about forgetting to flush or close the lid.
Exclusive, too, is the NEOREST’s Power Catalytic Air Purifier function, which automatically engages when a user rises from the seat. This technologically-advanced feature effectively eliminates unpleasant odors. The NEOREST's Automatic Power Deodorize may also be manually engaged at any time with the mere flip of a switch.

Q: REMOTE CONTROL: what are the functions?
A: The Neorest comes with a wireless remote control and all toilet and Washlet functions can be handled via the remote: motorized seat (up, down, temperature), water temperature, Cyclone flush, massage, oscillate, and change wand position.

Q: How long can I use the Washlet before running out of warm water?
A: The Neorest uses an instantaneous water heater to provide endless warm water.

Q: What is Fuzzy Logic?
A: The process through which the sensors & circuit board record a pattern of usage. The pattern is used to instruct the unit to go into “Power Save” mode (decrease seat temp, turn off water heater).

Q: What is the flushing performance like?
A: The “Cyclone” Siphon Jet flush has the equivalent strength of Power Gravity. It is a 3-stage flush: 1st, a swirling (cyclone) rim wash (1.5L). 2nd, a powerful siphon jet sends the waste through the trap (1.5L). 3rd, the bowl is cleaned and refilled by the swirling (cyclone) rim wash (3L).

Q: What is the “LIGHT FLUSH”?
A: When the Neorest is in “Auto Flush” mode, AND both the lid & seat have been up for more than 6 seconds, the toilet will flush only 1.2 gallons (versus 1.6).

Q: What if there is a power outage and I have no electricity?
A: The Neorest has a MANUAL OVERRIDE flush.

Q: What if I do not want to use the Washlet functions?
A: There is a Washlet shut-off, located on the left hand side of the casing.

Installation
Q: Can I install a Neorest on my existing plumbing?
A: YES – as long as you have a 12” Rough-in and your water supply is located approximately 11” off-center.

Q: Does the Neorest work with a 10” or 14” rough-in? A: NO (not yet).

Q: Do I need special plumbing/wiring to use the Neorest?
A: NO – the water supply connection is standard ½ inch, and the unit plugs into a standard 120 Volt AC (GFCI (fused)) outlet.

Q: What is the required WATER PRESSURE?
A: You need a MINIMUM of 20PSI. The MAXIMUM is 80PSI Use a minimum water supply pressure of 10PSI (0.07Mpa) flowing. (Warranty valid only if the water pressure is between 20 and 80 PSI).

Q: I want to install a shelf above the toilet – how much clearance should I have?
A: Toto USA recommends at least 10” of clearance above the top of the Neorest.
Note: that this may effect the remote control’s placement in the bathroom. Maintenance/Cleaning:
Q: How do I clean my Neorest?
A: The Neorest bowl has Sanagloss glaze and a smooth rim (no rim holes), making it easy to clean with non-abrasive household cleaners.

Q: Should I clean the water strainer and air filter at regular intervals?
A: Check the water filter in the shutoff valve every 3 months (more often if your water is hard). Clean the air inlet screen once a month (more often if your air is dusty).

Q: How can I be sure the Washlet nozzle is clean?
A: Every time the Washlet is used, the nozzle is rinsed BEFORE AND AFTER USE with fresh water. For manual cleaning, you can extend the nozzle for cleaning using the remote control.

Q: How do I WINTERIZE my Neorest? (“We have it installed in our summer home…”)
A: Turn off the water supply and drain the Washlet. The siphon jet supply line is insulated, but a small amount of antifreeze may be added to the bowl to prevent freezing.

Comments about TOTO Elongated Neorest® 500 One Piece Toilet, 1.6 GPF - SanaGloss® - MS950CG:

do not mind automatic closing, but automatic opening every time you walk into a bathroom is kind of annoying. Other than that is a great product. Neorest 550 is on my list(if the price is right, as it was the case with Neorest 500).

Comments about TOTO Elongated Neorest® 500 One Piece Toilet, 1.6 GPF - SanaGloss® - MS950CG:

This lives up to the hype. Yes, it's expensive when you can spend 1/10th for your basic toilet but you have to think about how many times you'll buy a toilet vs. how much you'll use it. Plus this is so much more than just a toilet. Besides being a luxury item it's also more healthy to use the bidet/waterlet. There are some install issues which require you to meet certain clearances, etc. Plus the fact that you need to have a power outlet close to your toilets water line which by default most houses don't have so you'll spend some more money getting things setup. That being said I wouldn't look back negatively on my decision to get this and in fact I try to 'hold it' so I can use this toilet if I'm out and know I'll be home soon :)

This is the second Neorest 500 I've purchased through HomeClick. I discovered this product on a trip to Japan and had to install it in one house...then another. Describe it to someone and they laugh. Let them try it and they want one. It is that good.

Only caution is that it's very unforgiving to install. I pride myself on being handy, but the required distance from supply line to center is so inflexible that I needed a plumber's help.

Well worth it, though.

Comments about TOTO Elongated Neorest® 500 One Piece Toilet, 1.6 GPF - SanaGloss® - MS950CG:

I get on the toilet via a lift which means I don't stand in front of it. I was worried the seat wouldn't open and we'd have to keep it open, but the sensor is very sensitive so it opened as soon as I moved above it and worked great.

The flush is powerful and the remote flush is very easy with large buttons. Very nice.

Comments about TOTO Elongated Neorest® 500 One Piece Toilet, 1.6 GPF - SanaGloss® - MS950CG:

Does everything it said it does. What surprised me the most was how well the deodorizer works. Not sure how it works, because it does not mask the odor with fragrance, it somehow eliminates it! Don't even need to turn on bathroom vent anymore. They should have these toilets in all public restrooms : ) A little more difficult to installed than a regular toilet. Make sure you have a electrical plug near by and the water supply line at least 10" (I think manual calls out 11.5 inches) from center of toilet. The included flex line is 3/4" and very stiff and will not bend to meet the water supply line if not positioned as mentioned in manual. I used a 90' brass angle fitting and extended it 6" more away from center line to make the connection at 10". Only thing weak is the dryer...helps to blot with tissue before or after.

Comments about TOTO Elongated Neorest® 500 One Piece Toilet, 1.6 GPF - SanaGloss® - MS950CG:

It's expensive for a toilet, but a great bargain for a bathroom remodel. My handyman only charged[$] to install. A separate bidet would have cost much more to install because a space would have to have been built and it would have to have been plumbed. It's wonderful for everyday use to make you feel clean and fresh. The flush is clean and efficient. When I had surgery recently it was nothing less than a godsend.

Comments about TOTO Elongated Neorest® 500 One Piece Toilet, 1.6 GPF - SanaGloss® - MS950CG:

Yes, it is expensive, but worth it. As a frequent traveler to Japan, I became accustomed to the toilets over there. For years, we've had a 'washlet' model that worked very well, but a recent move prompted us to get the Neorest. All I can say is that we love it. Installation is quick and easy. The only issue was putting in an electric outlet, but that was not difficult either.

Comments about TOTO Elongated Neorest® 500 One Piece Toilet, 1.6 GPF - SanaGloss® - MS950CG:

We got this as part of our bathroom remodelling about 21 months ago. It has been working very well. We decided to get the same for our second bathroom. As the other reviewer says, this has made our home very popular. Excellent value for money. All the features (deodorizer, tankless flush, heated seat, bidet functionality etc) work very well. Sometimes I feel that dryer is not powerful enough. Installation is more work than the standard toilets.

Comments about TOTO Elongated Neorest® 500 One Piece Toilet, 1.6 GPF - SanaGloss® - MS950CG:

Where it's needed this is a great alternative. Would have cost more than $20,000 to add bidet and toilet set in tight space in remodeling home.
Has worked well for more than two years. In the right place this is a great alternative.
Can't believe how many friends want to see it working!
Our popularity has increased since installation.
