FAQ

Functionality
Q: What are Neorest’s features?
A: The Neorest has an innovative cyclone flush engine. The NEOREST seat's multi-task functions provide gentle front-and back-aerated warm water spray, which can be regulated for preferred water pressure and temperature. Other technologically-advanced features include oscillating spray massage, heated seat, automatic catalytic air purifier, and warm air dryer all of which are governed by TOTO’s revolutionary energy-saving mode.

Q: What are some of the “AUTOMATIC” features?
A:
  • Automatically opens lid
  • Automatic flush / seat lid closure
  • Automatic air purifier

The NEOREST’s lid (not seat) automatically opens whenever an individual approaches it. When the individual leaves, the NEOREST automatically flushes and the lid automatically closes 6 seconds after user leaves sensor zone. With this convenient button-based, remote control luxury feature, one need never worry about forgetting to flush or close the lid.
Exclusive, too, is the NEOREST’s Power Catalytic Air Purifier function, which automatically engages when a user rises from the seat. This technologically-advanced feature effectively eliminates unpleasant odors. The NEOREST's Automatic Power Deodorize may also be manually engaged at any time with the mere flip of a switch.

Q: REMOTE CONTROL: what are the functions?
A: The Neorest comes with a wireless remote control and all toilet and Washlet functions can be handled via the remote: motorized seat (up, down, temperature), water temperature, Cyclone flush, massage, oscillate, and change wand position.

Q: How long can I use the Washlet before running out of warm water?
A: The Neorest uses an instantaneous water heater to provide endless warm water.

Q: What is Fuzzy Logic?
A: The process through which the sensors & circuit board record a pattern of usage. The pattern is used to instruct the unit to go into “Power Save” mode (decrease seat temp, turn off water heater).

Q: What is the flushing performance like?
A: The “Cyclone” Siphon Jet flush has the equivalent strength of Power Gravity. It is a 3-stage flush: 1st, a swirling (cyclone) rim wash (1.5L). 2nd, a powerful siphon jet sends the waste through the trap (1.5L). 3rd, the bowl is cleaned and refilled by the swirling (cyclone) rim wash (3L).

Q: What is the “LIGHT FLUSH”?
A: When the Neorest is in “Auto Flush” mode, AND both the lid & seat have been up for more than 6 seconds, the toilet will flush only 1.2 gallons (versus 1.6).

Q: What if there is a power outage and I have no electricity?
A: The Neorest has a MANUAL OVERRIDE flush.

Q: What if I do not want to use the Washlet functions?
A: There is a Washlet shut-off, located on the left hand side of the casing.

Installation
Q: Can I install a Neorest on my existing plumbing?
A: YES – as long as you have a 12” Rough-in and your water supply is located approximately 11” off-center.

Q: Does the Neorest work with a 10” or 14” rough-in?
A: NO (not yet).

Q: Do I need special plumbing/wiring to use the Neorest?
A: NO – the water supply connection is standard ½ inch, and the unit plugs into a standard 120 Volt AC (GFCI (fused)) outlet.

Q: What is the required WATER PRESSURE?
A: You need a MINIMUM of 20PSI. The MAXIMUM is 80PSI Use a minimum water supply pressure of 10PSI (0.07Mpa) flowing. (Warranty valid only if the water pressure is between 20 and 80 PSI).

Q: I want to install a shelf above the toilet – how much clearance should I have?
A: Toto USA recommends at least 10” of clearance above the top of the Neorest.
Note: that this may effect the remote control’s placement in the bathroom.

Maintenance/Cleaning:
Q: How do I clean my Neorest?
A: The Neorest bowl has Sanagloss glaze and a smooth rim (no rim holes), making it easy to clean with non-abrasive household cleaners.

Q: Should I clean the water strainer and air filter at regular intervals?
A: Check the water filter in the shutoff valve every 3 months (more often if your water is hard). Clean the air inlet screen once a month (more often if your air is dusty).

Q: How can I be sure the Washlet nozzle is clean?
A: Every time the Washlet is used, the nozzle is rinsed BEFORE AND AFTER USE with fresh water. For manual cleaning, you can extend the nozzle for cleaning using the remote control.

Q: How do I WINTERIZE my Neorest? (“We have it installed in our summer home…”)
A: Turn off the water supply and drain the Washlet. The siphon jet supply line is insulated, but a small amount of antifreeze may be added to the bowl to prevent freezing.

I thought it ridiculous to pay this much for a toilet, but once I used one in a hotel I was staying in, I had to have one. If you ever try one, you won't be happy until get one.

This is not your average "slam the seat" toilet. It can be somewhat confusing to use and should not have anyone playing with the controls. It is high-tech, but the most functional item I have seen. It does it all. Would not recommend it for children. Take the instuctions step by step and you will have no trouble installing. We just purchased it, so we don't have a track record on performance and durability.

Comments about TOTO Elongated Neorest® 600 One Piece Toilet, 1.6 GPF - SanaGloss® - MS990CGR:

We hadn't planned on spending quite so much on a toilet but I must say, we're very pleased with our TOTO Neorest 600. After doing a little research and cancelling an order for another more "run-of-the-mill" toilet, we decided on the TOTO. It is the only toilet we found that has an integrated washlet seat. The washlet is the real selling point for this unit. We both have health problems and take a lot of medications that frequently cause diarhea. Even if we didn't I would still recommend this toilet. It's amazing!

The TOTO has a seat warmer which I was sure wouldn't be needed or wanted in our Hawaiian climate but to my surprise, it is very nice to have a heated seat. Beyond that, the rear wash function (including osilate and pulsate features) is just the ticket for keeping clean. When you're done washing, push the button for the heated dryer to help dry your rear. You'll still need to wipe dry but it's so much better than having to wipe and wipe and wipe to get "sort of clean" with an old-fashioned toilet.

Installation of the TOTO does require some special attention. The unit is supplied with a really nice valve and riser (the plumbing supply line from the valve). In order for these bits to work, the valve needs to be in just the right place so read your manual carefully. The power supply isn't quite as restrictive but I didn't want the cord to show so I placed the GFCI outlet very near the unit. The excess cord tucks neatly away in a recess in the back of the TOTO.

I really can't say enough about how wonderful this toilet is. It is a luxury, yes, but one that promotes hygenic good health and amazing comfort for an appliance that is normally over looked. The TOTO can be fully automatic or you can turn off the features that you don't want.
Water is a constant concern for all of us these days so you might prefer to turn off the auto-flush function for "if it's yellow, let it mellow".

If you like the idea of a touchless toilet, this is the one! The remote control mounts to the wall or can be placed on a shelf next to the toilet. It's a bit on the large size for a remote control but it works very well and it's likely to be lost or worse -- flushed. It is a well designed remote control that looks nice too.

Again, we are very happy with the TOTO and our friends are lining up to try it out.

Service & Delivery comments:

Living in Hawaii, I always expect to pay more and wait longer for shipping. This was the case for the TOTO as well. Jennifer at HomeClick was able to find economical shipping but coming by ship takes time -- about three weeks. I choose HomeClick because they had a very resonable price on the unit and the best shipping rates.

The unit arrived in perfect condition. TOTO put a lot of energy into designing appropriate packaging -- not too surprizing for a superior product like this.

Comments about TOTO Elongated Neorest® 600 One Piece Toilet, 1.6 GPF - SanaGloss® - MS990CGR:

This product was installed in two of the hotels I'd visited in Tokyo and Osaka. I thought this was one of the best items I'd ever seen. Yes, it's definitely on the "pricey" end. However, no one who has used it has had anything but praise. (My daughter thinks it's fun!) And, no more opening toilet clogs. This was not something I could install myself. I hired a plumber and it took 3-1/2 hours to install...so, add another $500 to the price. Still, it's worth every penny.
