Brand: Saniflo
Located in: Bath, Toilets

The little brother of the Saniplus, this is a smaller version in the Saniflo line of toilets. But don’t let its small size fool you. This is a bathroom appliance that can solve big, plumbing problems. The Sanicompact is a self-contained toilet that’s ideal for fitting into tight spots where conventional toilets can’t go. Requiring just 1.1 U.S gal. (4 litres) of water per flush, the Sanicompact is a miser with water.
  • The Sanicompact comes with the following: toilet bowl that incorporates the macerating unit and toilet seat.
  • This toilet was created for situations where there is not enough space.
As a toilet that uses a minimum amount of water.
As a toilet for use with people that have physical limitations.
  • 4 litres (1.1 gallon) of water per flush.
  • No external water tank as the flushing mechanism is built in and is totally electric. One press of pneumatic button on top of the bowl, this activates a timer and a solenoid valve in order to fill and wash the sides of the bowl. The motor starts and the waste and paper are sucked inside, where it is macerated and pumped away. The motor stops after approximately 15 seconds and the timer programs the refill of the bowl with fresh water.
  • The discharge pipe of the Sanicompact is 1 inch in diameter, the pump operates at 7 PSI and pumps the effluent upwards to 9 feet and/or 100 feet horizontally. The discharge pipe-work may be made with either copper or solvent welded plastic material, provided that a consistent gravity fall of 2% is maintained throughout the run.
  • At the soil-stack end of the pipe run the small-bore pipe-work must be connected to the waste by means of an appropriate TY fitting. Electrical supply to the Sanicompact is 120V, 15 Amp. The system should be connected to a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter circuit.

What is a Macerator?
To "macerate" is to soften, to break in pieces. Our Saniflo macerating systems use a rotating cutting blade to liquefy human waste and toilet paper. When mixed with flushing water the waste is pumped into a sanitary sewer as a fine slurry.
Installing a bathroom where you want is often difficult and sometimes even impossible. The main drainpipe is either too far away, or the new bathroom or sink will be lower than the drainpipe, making conventional installation unworkable. So what you need is the Saniflo up flush toilet and macerating pump that requires minimal construction work.
Saniflo’s macerator units solve these problems, because they can grind and pump waste over a distance of 150 feet and up to a height of 18 feet. These systems automatically activate when required to reduce effluent to a slurry and pump it away to the soil stack, septic tank or sewer through small diameter discharge pipes. And here is how it works.
1. The toilet is flushed and the effluent is discharged by gravity through the rear spigot and into the macerator device. The effluent rises to a preset level, a micro-switch in the pressure chamber of the macerating device is activated.
2. Simple flapper style check valves on each of the side inlets close momentarily, while the blades inside rotate at 3,600 revolutions per minute and reduce any solids within the effluent into liquid, in about 3 or 4 seconds.
3. All waste is pumped into a sanitary gravity drain (a soil stack or a septic tank) through a standard pipe just ¾" or 1" in diameter. Once the liquid effluent is completely pumped out of the macerator, the micro-switch deactivates.
4. A non-return valve in the macerating unit prevents back-flow of the reduced effluent into the unit. The toilet refills with water. The macerator is now empty (apart from the water seal) and the system is ready for use again.
NOTE: Toilet flush is given priority if another appliance is simultaneously discharged until the effluent from the toilet is sufficiently reduced, so that pressure switch is deactivated.

I checked on all the different ways to put a toilet in the basement off the rec room and they all were more complicated and required more work than this toilet. When I ordered it I expected it to be bigger and when I recieved it I was impressed by it's size and a little skeptical but after getting it installed which was very easy to do I was very pleased with it's performance and every one that has seen it has been very impressed. I was very glad that I took the advice that a friend gave me. He has one and is very satisfied with it. Very stylish and is easy to set any decor with it. [...] I would diffently recomment this to anyone that needs an upflush toilet. Thanks for your product and the follow up on its use and customer satisfaction that means a lot to me. Robert Rose

put one in my basement for a half bath about 4 months ago and have had no problems, and im now about to buy another one for my grandfathers basement. the installation is pretty simple especially when you compare it to the other products that flush up. it seems almost too good to be true (one inch discharge and no vent!) but after four months and dozens of uses i have yet to encounter a problem.

Service & Delivery comments:

i work for the post office so im not too fond of ups but i have to say the package arrived on time and intact so i guess delivery is good.

Comments about Saniflo Sanicompact 48 - One Piece Toilet with Macerator Built Into the Base 18-3/4in Depth - 023:

We created a badly needed bathroom in our laundry room. Without company two bathrooms were fine...with company there is always someone waiting. To have created a "real" bathroom, including a toilet the floor would have to have been torn up. Expensive repairs would have to have taken place. In just a few hours and one trip to [...] this product was installed and working....as was our new rest room.

Comments about Saniflo Sanicompact 48 - One Piece Toilet with Macerator Built Into the Base 18-3/4in Depth - 023:

the compact installs easily with basic plumbing knowledge. the motor is loud but not lengthy, the seat is not standard and would be my only complaint thus far ( i was really hoping to replace it with a breeza) .
I havent read any reviews from long time users so very interested in how well this performs over time...i can imagine that if a problem occurs it will be an unpleasant mess to deal with.
none the less, it seems to do exactly as advertised...very happy.

Comments about Saniflo Sanicompact 48 - One Piece Toilet with Macerator Built Into the Base 18-3/4in Depth - 023:

This prduct was installed in our basement because of its vertical discharge capacity. We had the option of installing a gravity discharge system into the sump pump, which is equipped to handle solid waste, but chose the saniflo, because it provided a quicker route to the waste line and insured against having waste water cleanup when the electrical system fails and sump pump overflows due to infrequent but certain power outages.

The product was easy to install. Design specifications were accurate. Installation instructions need to be read carefully to insure an easy installation.

Service & Delivery comments:

UPS ground delivery was easy to follow online. the product arrived before the original due date and we tracked its arrival without any problems. The packaging was bulky but insured the arrival of the product in good condition.

Poor distribution of water to overhead bowl rinse holes, thus non-uniform bowl rinsing action. No instructions as to when and how to install toilet seat. Seat MUST be installed before mounting toilet close to a wall. Difficult seat installation. China bowl has toilet seat mounting holes that are 6 and 1/4 inch on center rather than he standard 5 and 1/2 inch. The seat supplied is average quality plastic. Replacement seats can only be purchased from Saniflo [...]A quality wood seat fron Saniflo is very expensive !

Comments about Saniflo Sanicompact 48 - One Piece Toilet with Macerator Built Into the Base 18-3/4in Depth - 023:

Purchased the Sani-Compact with idea of saving $ installing in a basement bathroom where I have to pump up to hit septic system outfall line and fit into a very small space. Easier to install and plumb than an in-floor sump with an ejector pump, and less expensive overall for project cost because I didn't have to jack-hammer up the floor to run the plumbing. Installation was fairly quick and easy, about 1 hour after plumbing water lines were run, and worked the first flush.
