Comments about Zojirushi Tuff Sports Vacuum Bottle - 1 Liter:
This is the best insulated drink container (thermos) on the market! Very rugged and stylish, this container from Zojirushi, is almost half the size of my old, bulky, glass-lined thermos and it is much more durable. It also has comparable heat retention (at least 8 hours, but my coffee never lasts that long).
If heat retention is your only priority, you might be better served with a conventional, cheaper, fragile, glass-lined model. But, if you want style, durability, and exceptional functionality in a compact package, this container was made for you. For best results, remember to pre-heat with boiling water for at least 2 minutes before filling. I haven't tried it yet, but pre-chilling the container in the freezer would also be very effective for cold drinks, too.
My favorite feature of this top-of-the-line container is the innovative push-button mouth on the lid. By depressing a small button on the top of the inside lid (not the cover/cup lid), a small pouring-mouth pops open. A separate button pops out when the mouth opens up. Simply push this button back in to close the mouth for a watertight seal.
While Zojirushi advertises this slick, innovative lid for one-handed opening and pouring, the container is a little too unwieldy to pull it off completely one-handed, but it is much more efficient and spill-proof than typical twist-tops that must be entirely removed to pour. I find the design to be very efficient, clean and cool. The container also has an extra wide opening to fit full size ice cubes and to make cleaning a snap.
I have read some complaints about leaking, but I have not had any leaks whatsoever. I keep mine in a duffel bag with my laptop and several other electronic devices, so leaking is simply not an option. This container does not leak, not even a little, BUT. . . if this container is overfilled, some of the contents can be squeezed into the threads above the watertight gasket when closing the lid. This overflow liquid will slowly drain out, causing the impression that the container itself is leaking, which is not the case.
One effective trick to prevent this from happening, while still achieving maximum capacity, is to pop open the small pouring mouth when closing the lid. This allows air from inside the container to escape as the lid is being tightened. This also creates a tighter vacuum seal which equals better heat retention.
Another attractive feature to the design of this container is the fold-up handle. This hard-rubber handle can be pulled out for easy carrying and when not in use it can be folded-up flush against the container. This handle also keeps the container from rolling when it is on it's side. It is important to note that the handle is held in place by durable steel brackets, not cheap plastic, which ensures maximum durability.
To put it simply, I love this container, but I do wish they made a model with a larger capacity. Other than that, I highly recommend this product to anyone who is looking for the best insulated container on the market.
