The coffee drinker's "Tea Ceremony"- scientifically intellectually stimulating - but: hard to tell if your grind will be too fine and clog the filter, or too coarse and not develop the taste you want. Better results with the French Press for those who like really dark brews or like more control over the intensity, steeping, etc. Plus when you're done, you have another process to clean it. Not for everyday use unless you have the time.

we love just watching it brew...I have been looking for this type for years and did not know where to look...I am totally satisfied with the taste and my son, who is a coffee critic..loves this coffee...we look forward to many years of use..it works great on our glass top stove and is ready in just minutes..my only concern is the fear that I will break it while cleaning...

One recommendation for a vacuum pot users. In a case of clogging of the filter during siphoning of coffee back to the lower pot, turn on heating again. This will push coffee up and clean the filter. The second cycle usually goes smoothly.

I was using a French press to brew my coffee everyday, the problem was that my wife did not like the mouthfeel of the press. I heard about this brewer and gave it a try. Bottom line, it is the best coffee you can brew. It lacks the "chewy" mouthfeel of the press coffee which is a good thing. I mentioned long brew time as a con but it isn't that long. You have to bring water to a boil so it is longer than an automatic coffee maker but quicker or about the same as a French press. I really liked the French press but I rarely use the press now because I always want coffee from the vacuum brewer.

Pretty shape, easy to setup, fun to see brewing. Has glass that sparkles. To clean thoroughly spray with liquid cleaner.

I found brewing info on-line only because Bodum does not give you accurate or any (except outside of the box) instructions for use. The glass is very thin and can easily break. You must be gentle with it when cleaning it. As soon as the water boils inside the lower chamber, lower the flame a little and place the upper chamber on. Use a stop watch and time for 30-35 seconds only; take off stove on place onto cool surface. Use a wooden spoon to stir the coffee a little in the upper chamber. The ground coffee should look like the surface of the moon after it leaves the upper chamber.

Makes great coffee, but you have to use a coarse grind or it plugs up the strainer.

It's amazing how this brewer operates, there are no filters yet the grinds never enter into the finished coffee product. Fast set up and fast clean up, great product, but delicate (all glass)
