10" Workshop Tablesaw

This JETĀ® Tablesaw features a powerful 1-1/2HP motor with a poly-V drive belt transfer system to more efficiently power the saw blade. With a unique trunnion design, the motor is completely within the tablesaw cabinet rather than hanging out the backside like on competitive units. The steel extension tables give you a much larger working surface to help support the project while the double locking fence and deluxe miter gauge allow for precision cuts on any project.

Features

  • Surface-ground cast iron table with miter slots and beveled edge provides a sturdy, flat work surface
  • Steel extension wings increase your work area for larger work pieces
  • See-through blade guard with splitter and anti-kickback pawls helps protect operator while giving a clear view of the material being cut
  • 1-1/2HP maxi-torque 115V/230V motor prewired for 115V operation
  • Exclusive double-drive power system transfers more power to the arbor than conventional belt-drive systems
  • One-piece trunnion design offers increased strength and rigidity for more accurate cutting
  • Miter gauge with positive stops for accurate cross-cutting and mitering
  • Horizontally-braced steel leg stand adds strength and stability to the saw
  • Left tilting for more controlled bevel cutting

Comments about Jet 10" Workshop Tablesaw - 708100:

The Jet 708100 is a great table saw for the small workshop. It has a belt-drive motor, which is much quieter than the direct-drive models. Unlike contractor's saws, the hybrid Jet's motor is entirely within the cabinet. This means that the saw takes up less space than a standard contractor's saw with no loss of power. The cast-iron top is quite heavy, and you'll likely need another person to help unpack and set up the saw. I did it myself, but it wasn't easy. The fence is solid, and the miter gauge has positive stops. I didn't use the blade that came with the saw because I had just bought a new Freud blade for my old saw, so I used that one. The saw did not require any adjustment, except for getting the blade guard properly aligned with the blade. I turned the blade to 90* and checked it with a Wixey digital gauge, and it was right on. My only complaint about this saw has to do with the stand. Two of the legs have wheels, and two have adjustable feet. The idea is that you can wheel the saw around the shop. Within a couple of days of assembling the saw and moving it around a few times, the wheel brackets and the legs they attach to had both bent to the point that the saw could hardly be moved. Since when you're moving it, the full weight is on only two legs, the wheel legs need to be a lot stronger than they are. If you aren't moving the saw much, this might not be a problem, but if you do need to move it, you might want to build a rolling cabinet for it.

In short: great saw, lousy base. But for the price, the 708100 can't be beat.

Comments about Jet 10" Workshop Tablesaw - 708100:

Strong, quiet, smooth saw. Ideal for my projects around the house. The basic fence is 10 times better than the mid-price Craftsman saw it replaced. The set-up went well, except to get the steel wings as level as I wanted. That took some playing around to get squared. Having said that, I added a shop-made router top to the right end and it makes for a great space saving footprint.

This is a perfect saw for the budget - durable, well-built, easy to use, and offers craftsmanship and precision-capability that surpasses anything in the price range. While admittedly not a professional cabinet saw, this may well be the last tablesaw you need to buy.
