I've got a customer who needs 2 decks in her backyard done ASAP. This tool has helped quite a bit. It does a nice job on the deck surface. The valve could be better. It's just an unmarked twist ring halfway down the handle. Some markings would help you open it back to the right spot every time, because you're opening and closing the valve constantly. That would drive the price up, as would a sturdier handle (the handle is not flimsy, but it isn't industrial strength either). If the pads were velcro backed and replaceable that would be nice too. The tool is priced to be a throw-away once the job is done, but it isn't hard to clean. The tank only holds half a gallon, which keeps the weight down, but you go through the stain fast. Because it gets the job done fast. And that's nice. This tool is not really useful for railings and other vertical surfaces, and really rough wood will tear the pad up pretty quickly.
Tip - fill the tank using a big plastic cup when the gallon can of stain is full. It's hard to pour the big can into the 3" opening in the tank, and deck stain is pricey so you don't want any spills.

I bought the DeckMate because I have a bad back and have to do my staining standing up. I've used a roller in the past, but the DeckMate did a much superior job in less than half the time. Using an opaque stain, I got great coverage, little dripping (once I mastered the valve), and it even got all the corners. I did NOT have to go back later and do touch-ups. If I could change anything, I would give it a longer, perhaps telescoping handle. It even worked well when I picked it up and stained the boards on my fence.
