Comments about Tommy Bahama Tommy Bahama Contempo Collection 52 inch Ceiling Fan - TB304:
I have 2 of these under a pergola with a shade tree system. I mounted them directly to rough-cut 3x12 cedar stringers. this fan is rated wet location, however, there is an opening ontop of the decorative cap where water will get into if you mount it as i did. However, if you mount it under a 'roof' it won't be a problem and this is apparently its intended installation method. I had to make a weather shield for this cap to prevent the weather from getting inside the wiring (and you will to IF you mount it under a pergola or other 'open' roof design). They look nice and work well. One more thing to note is that they do NOT come with pull cords to operate the lights or fans. so you MUST use the wall mount controls (or purchase the optional hand-held remotes). Also, it appears that although the fan is 'wet location' rated.. the wall mount controls do not appear to be.. so you either have to mount them inside or in a weatherproof gfci switch cover/plate. This fan is made by Emerson and appear to be well made. They are very heavy. The blades appear to be made of plastic which makes them weather resistent however, they look pretty good despite being plastic. You honestly can't tell they're plastic from eye sight level so don't let this deter you from buying it. You have the option to use the light kit (included) or simply use a nice clean-looking stainless steel cover. I needed the lighting for my use. The light covers are very easy to install but are a bit difficult to remove to change the light bulbs.
i ordered both fans seperately. they both shipped very fast in their original boxes.
