My dryer is 20 feet from the external vent. Additionally, there were five 90 degree turns, the ducting was corrugated flexible metal, and was so clogged with lint that I'm amazed I didn't have a fire. After replacing the flexible duct with rigid pipe and eliminating two of the 90 degree turns I was still exceeding the maximum distance for my dryer. This vent fan saved the day. It's so powerful that I can dry a load of towels and jeans in about 30 minutes--a task that used to take 4 times that long. The fan pulls the air through the pipe so effectively, there's no chance for lint to settle and clog things up.
