When the towel bar arrived, I was worried that the length was too long (next shorter size is 18"). But my clever husband (aka the bathroom remodeler) was able to cut 2" off of the bar because the parts come apart easily. Not that I would recommend any customer do this, but it was so nice to have the option to shorten the bar a bit.
