Comments about Frigidaire 10,000 BTU Slider/Casement Air Conditioner with Electronic Controls - FAK104R1V:

This is my second Frigidaire casement/slider window air conditioner. It is a 10,000 BTU unit to replace a 7,800 BTU Panasonic unit. The room to be cooled is my home office, on the hot second floor with two outside walls facing the southwest, with several computers, printers, and other heat-creating electronics. Most of the BTU calculators say that 8,000 BTU should be enough, but the first unit just couldn't get the 85-degree temperature down below 79 degrees, even running for hours. This big boy gets the room down to 74 degrees (where I like it) in about a half-hour!

I chose this size over the 8,000 BTU Frigidaire because this unit's airflow on 'medium' speed is about equal the the smaller unit's airflow on 'high'. If I leave the office door open, this unit helps to cool the rest of the upstairs rooms.

I like the fact that the fan stops running when the room temperature reaches the thermostat setting. The old unit ran the fan all the time, whether the compressor was on or off. I use the 'energy saver' mode, which will run the fan for a brief period every six minutes, to sample the room air temperature by actually moving some air to be sure of the room temperature. If it's still cool, the unit stops running and waits another six minutes and tests again. If it senses that the room air is warmer than the thermostat setting, it then turns on the compressor to cool the air, and stays running until the temperature is at the desired setting.

It is a bit louder than the old unit, but that is to be expected with the increased airflow.

The window "filler" panel and frame, above the A/C's case, lacks two inches of reaching the top of my tall window. There is a kit available for tall windows that I'll have to order. For now, the opening is closed up with filament tape.

One other design change that I'd like to see is for the mounted position to NOT protrude so far into the room. The Venetian blinds will have to be pulled forward, over the front grille, in order to be lowered all the way. I leave the blinds' slats at their most-open (flat; horizontal) position so as not to interfere with the airflow, but I like the blinds to be fully down. It would be nice if the case of the air conditioner had a set of mounting holes for the L-brackets so that the unit could be mounted with more of the case outside of the window.

Another nice feature of this unit is the "sleep" setting. My other, twin unit is in the master bedroom, and on hot nights, one can let it run in the 'sleep' mode, and the thermostat will automatically raise the setpoint during the night, so that the unit runs less in the wee hours.

All in all, I'm very pleased with its performance.

Service & Delivery comments:

The unit was delivered as scheduled, right onto the front porch. The packing is quite good, and the carton is in three parts - the top, the sides, and a bottom, with nylon banding holding it together. The top, then the sides 'sleeve' lifts up and off, so that two of us can then pick the unit off of the carton's bottom.

I'd buy this air conditioner, again.

Comments about Frigidaire 10,000 BTU Slider/Casement Air Conditioner with Electronic Controls - FAK104R1V:

I use this air conditioner to cool the in-house temperature, during afternoon and evening hours. I don't need the air conditioner operating until 1:30 in the afternoon, but I leave for work at 6:00 in the morning. The timer has been a wonderful attribute of the unit, as I can set the air conditioner to come on hours later. The remote control is an added bonus for those evenings when I don't feel like moving. The unit has operated very well, and I'm very pleased with it. On those evenings that I walk into the house from a muggy heat, I'm thankful I purchased it. When I feel that coolness, I think that it was worth every penny I paid.[...]Considering it was roughly handled, the unit operates flawlessly and any boo-boos aren't visible and don't subtract from the unit's effectiveness.

I have quite a large size living room, but this A/C cools it right off! Only wish I'd ordered it sooner!
