I had kept the my homes origional, basic American Standard toilets for many years. Even though there were some reasons for which I would have otherwise wanted to change them out, I resisted, not want to deal with the poor performance of early low volume flush toilets. As it seems that those problems have largely been eliminated, at least with higher quality units, I finally decide to go forwad with new ones with higher height, elongated bowl and updated style/colors. Overall, I am satisfied. They flush well and quickly, and the one piece units have a clean, even elegent style. My only issue in performance is that the bowl does not wash down quite as throughly and consistently as I had hoped, given the Sanigloss finish. I'm not saying it is really bad or a disaster, but not up to my expectations.

Installation is easy enough in theory, although different from the old standard. With the skirted units, a rough-in adaptor that is used between the floor flang and the toilet outlet, which is located near the back of the toilet base. With the adaptor, the T-bolts that seal to the flange do not also hold down the toilet, making the seal more secure. Four additional screws secure the adaptor to the floor. These are located in the "wings" at the rear of the adaptor. The toilet outlet inserts into what is essentially a stand pipe formed by the adaptor, with a highly resilient rubber seal. The toilet itself is held by a second set of T-bolts that are held in slots in the "wings". Overall, this is an improved system as small movement of the toilet will not break the seal.

Out of 3 toilets I only had two issues with installation. The skirted units require that the supply line be 8" off the center line of the rough in. I don't believe that here is a standard for the placement of the supply line, but mine certainly looked to have a reasoneable offset. Still, all of my units were close, and I had to add a couple of 90 degree fittings to one in order to jog it over so that the oval handle of the cut-off valve would clear the toilet.

I also found that both the toilets have very little clearance from the wall (both at the base and the back of the tank) when installed at the specified rough in set-back. All 3 of my toilets are a standard 12" rough in. However, with one unit the center line of the flange was about 1/4" to 3/8" closer to the wall. I had to remove the "shoe" from the baseboard in order to gain sufficent clearence for the base, and the back of the toilet tank actually contacts the wall. Given that this 12" dimension is a "ROUGH IN" measure, I think that the design should allow a bit more margin for error.

Still, overall the benefits of the new toilets outweight these issues. After several weeks of use, I am satisfie that they provide a consistent and through flush, and believe that these will be no more prone to cloging than the old 3.5 gal. flushers.

My only "complaint:" Our plumber had to re-route the water shut-off line for 2 of the 3 bathrooms by a few inches (the 12" rough in was fine). This extra procedure took an additional day of installation. In the overall scheme of things, this was a small inconvenience for getting the toilets I wanted since I moved in!
I highly recommend this toilet.....do NOT freak out over the price. It's worth every penny.

good looking, stands tall with a "shelf " which is wide enough to place things. Plumber said the installation was unusual and req'd extra effort but was impressed with the design which has the toilet sitting on a rubber piece instead of the wax seal. this allows you to remove the toilet easily without damge to the seal.

I have built a number of custom homes over the years and thought I knew toilets. When I deceided to change out the Kohler low boy round seat toilets in our home I started to research what was available. I looked at a lot of different brands. I kept coming back to Toto as I had heard that they were very well made. I had put one in a Master Bath in Santa Barbara and liked the style. I searched and searched and finally came up with my criteria:One piece, Elongated seat, good flushing system, ADA, a different design from a traditional toilet. As I searched I found toilets from Kohler, American Standard, off brands coming in from Mexico or China and Toto. The particular toilet I choose Carlyle II 1.28GPF One-Piece High-Efficiency SanaGloss Toilet - MS614114CEFG by Toto has a great profile that looks really different and clean. So next I began shopping for the best price and delivery. I found it at HomeClick. We have had them for about a month and they continue to work as expected. So I am a happy camper

I really like this toilet. Well made and well designed. Guests comment how nice the toilet seat and height of the toilet feel. It keeps clean very easily. I love well made American made products like this TOTO.

It's been several months and I have yet to clean the toilet with any cleaning products. Yes you read this right, I strongly recommend any TOTO product with the SanaGloss glaze. We have hard, calcium loaded water and since this toliet was installed all I have done is used a yarn-headed type brush and swooped it around. The toilet looks just like the day it was installed. I am now remodeling the rest of my bathroom and purchased an undermounted toto sink also with this feature, I can't wait to use it. You know how remodeling goes it is never on schedule. I wish I knew about Toto and the SanaGloss when I remodel my kitchen. Yea for American-made & Yea for SanaGloss.

The plumber installed my toilet so it was pretty easy. I must admit that I have not yet used it to it's full capcity, it is for my 2nd bathroom. I ordered it for the TOTO reputation, the flushing ability, and the height. My main concern is the cleaning, I've only had the toilet for a week so that won't be for a while. However, this most recent model may be the answer to the negative things I've seen written on the ease of cleaning. This Carlyle II toilet has a better flushing mechanism and the water cover in the bowl is higher then I've seen. When I began my research these two things were only in the $1,000 and above priced-range toilets. So perhaps these negatives have been addressed. A side note, the top of the tank is small and slopes toward the toilet, so if you are one that likes to have a box of tissues or decorative piece sitting on the top, forget about it.
