Keith Hernandez was a leader. Widely considered to be the best-fielding first baseman of his time Hernandez won 11 straight Gold Gloves from 1978-1988. His signature season came in 1979 while playing with the Cardinals. That season he won the NL batting title hitting .344 and led the league in doubles (48) and runs scored (116). For his efforts he was named NL MVP. In 1982 he helped the Cardinals win the World Series. After 9 years in St. Louis Hernandez was traded to the Mets in 1983. In 1986 he was instrumental for the Mets as they captured a World Series Championship. In 1987 he was named team captain for his on-field production and his clubhouse leadership.
