Teak is a hardwood of choice for durable outdoor furniture. It requires little or no care and will last for many years. Initially, teak is a golden brown color. This color is derived from the natural oils in the wood. Exposure to the sun will naturally dry the oils and change the color to a silvery gray. This process can take 6 - 12 months depending on the amount of exposure to the elements. As the weathering process occurs, you may notice small cracks (often called "checking" in the furniture) and the grain may rise slightly. This is normal and in no way affects the stability and integrity of the wood. The only maintenance your furniture requires is a periodic cleaning with a soft bristle brush and mild detergent (laundry detergent and water) work well.
