10 steps on 'How to Build a Raised Garden Bed'
Pick a sunny location and remove the sod.
Make sure ground is level
Use your carpenter’s level to be sure the ground is level.
Cut the 2”x8”x8’s in half
Cut the 2”x8”x8’s in half. Measure 4’ from the end and make a mark. Use the square to mark a straight line then cut along the line with the circular saw. These will be the sides.
Make corner posts
Cut 4 – 7 ¼” lengths from the 4”x4”x3’ post. These will be the corner posts.
Place side board
On a flat surface, place a side board on two corner posts keeping the board even with the posts.
Drill three pilot holes
Drill three pilot holes into the side piece keeping them evenly spaced and approximately 1” from the ends.
Secure the board to the post
Secure the board to the post with 3” screws. Do the same for the other end. Do this on two side boards.
The other two side boards will overlap so drill the holes in approximately 3” from the end or the screws will miss the posts.
Secure the last two boards with the 3” wood screws.
Place the frame
Place the frame in your prepared location and fill with soil.
