Comments about Single Stack Fan Switch Accessory:

This was difficult to find this mainly because of poor descriptions and incompetent operators. I'm replacing a three speed Craftmade ceiling fan switch with black knurled nut and chain. Had to call in to find out if the chain and nut were black for 280-B108FB. The answer they gave me on the phone was, "the housing is black", which is not logical nor was it true. In fact the chain and nut are black, the housing is half black and half turquoise. They also stated that the switch was on/off only, which is also not true. I called Craftmade who told me all these Craftmade 280-B108 switches are for three speed fans with an off, which IS true. Label your wires which can be found on the back of your current broken switch. Each plug is labeled ("L", "1", "2", and "3"). On my fan, purple was "1", brown was "2", gray was "3", and black was "L". WARNING: YOUR WIRE COLORS WILL MOST LIKELY BE DIFFERENT THAN MINE. Label your wires according to the label on the current broken switch prior to removing it. It was difficult to remove the wires. After breaking the old switch in half to see how it works, the best advice I can give is use a thicker paper clip and insert it in the very same position, location and direction as the end of the wire. It will push the copper wedge away from the wire and release it. None of the black plastic is involved in releasing the wire. Only the copper contact must be sprung away from the wire. After the switch is removed, just push your labeled wires into the holes against the copper contacts. Also, I recommend tightening the switch in the fan housing so that the barrel of the switch is such that you are pulling over the center of the barrel as opposed to perpendicular to the center of the barrel. It will function better and have a longer life. All this means is that when you pull down on the chain you are pulling "over the top and around the shaft/hub" of the switch instead of against the side shaft/hub. Also, I found it easier to write the switch labels on the inside of the fan switch unit, which you can remove if you unplug the square plastic cannon plug and just work on this on your table instead of hanging in the air. Bottom line is the switch is a three speed plus off, starting with High, Medium, Low then off. It has a black and turquoise housing with a black chain and black knurled nut (FB only). Shipping is high and during checkout it said that is would ship in three weeks but I ordered this on the 15th and arrived here, Friday the 18th. I was very happy that my 16.00 (NW Florida) shipping was actually for FedEx quick shipping! Good luck and hope this helps.
