Homeclick Community Guidelines

What is the Homeclick Community?

We like to think of as a virtual gathering of like-minded people who share a common interest: making their dream home a reality. Like the actual community many of you live in, the Homeclick Community is made up of individuals from varying backgrounds, ideals, cultures and opinions. And as in an actual community, every individual must be valued and respected. To this end, we find it helpful to think of our fellow Community member as our actual neighbor. We help him out when its needed, and she does the same in return. We share ideas, help with projects and make recommendations. We think you'll find your Homeclick Community experience that much richer if you do the same.

That said, we do still wish to lay out a few guidelines regarding Community behavior.

First Thing First

Have you registered?
This is easy enough. Click on the register button and follow the instructions to set up your user account. Sure, you can read articles, watch videos and check out forum discussions without registering, but your own contributions will be pretty limited until you do.

The Bad Neighbor

In real life, a bad neighbor is one who steals your tools, lets his dog do a duty on your lawn (and doesn't pick it up) and gossips about you behind your back. No one likes a bad neighbor.

In the Homeclick Community, a bad neighbor is one who:

  • Makes personal attacks or insults.
  • Post obscene, racists, profane, sexual and hateful language or images.
  • Harasses or defames others or makes allegations against a person or a company.
  • Solicits fellow Community members for commercial reasons.
  • Posts information or images that belong to others. This is called copyright infringement and it's a definite "no-no" in the Community.
  • Hijacks a conversation and heads it in an irrelevant or completely off-topic direction. There's a forum for everything, so the one you're looking for shouldn't be hard to find!

Bottom line: Don't be a bad neighbor.

The Good Neighbor

Wouldn't it be great if all neighbors were good neighbors? They collect the mail when you're away, shovel your driveway after a snow storm and keep a watchful eye over all the kids on the street. We want our Community to be bursting at the seams with good neighbors, and we know you do to.

In the Homeclick Community, a good neighbor is one who:

  • Participates! No one should feel like a hermit in the Homeclick Community. We love seeing the open exchange of ideas, lively and productive conversation and constructive comments. People helping people. You know what we're talking about.
  • Is safe. We can take every step in the book to create the safest online Community available, but it's still up to you to make smart decisions about personal information you choose (or choose not) to reveal. Please, no home addresses or phone numbers.
  • Practices honesty. There's a lot of virtual space between us, but that doesn't give us the right to misrepresent ourselves. Some of you might represent companies related to the home improvement industry. Be upfront about this and your fellow Community members will respect you even more.
  • Keeps an eye out for bad neighbors. Built into the Community is a feature that lets any user flag a post or a comment as inappropriate. No, it's not tattle-telling! Reporting bad behavior helps keep the Community filled with good neighbors.

The Right of the Community Managers

While we prefer to take a more hands-off approach to the oversight of the Community, at times we are forced to intervene. We reserve the right to:

  • Reject or remove posts or comments at our discretion. This includes posts that contain personal attacks, obscenity, profanity, are off-topic or violate our guidelines or Terms of Use.
  • Restructure the forum by adding, removing or renaming topics and all associated discussions and posts. We will do our best to preserve old posts in the new topic areas.
  • Suspend a user's account.
