This egg was orginally made for Varvara Kelkh, a wealthy Russian heiress, who commissioned seven Easter eggs which rivaled importance and beauty those given to Empress Alexandra Fedorovna. In fact, over the years, the Kelkh Easter eggs have, on occations, been identified and sold as Imperial eggs. This egg is composed of overlapping disks enamaled translucent blue over a guilloche ground with more than 1000 individually set Austrian crystals. The egg's suprise is a miniature elephant that, when opened reveals its own suprise, a cobalt blue egg pendant.
